How AI is used — and how to switch it off
Where AI appears
Ask the Globe (child questions about the world), the AI Teacher hint inside quizzes, on-demand outcome quizzes, and optional "Try a new way" explanations in reteach loops. Everything else — lessons, units, practice questions, rubrics and diagnostics — is human-written and reviewed content.
What it can answer
Age-appropriate questions about geography, science, history, maths and language, grounded in the lesson it sits inside. Answers include a plain "how sure we are" statement and, where relevant, a "check with a trusted adult" line.
What it will not do
No open chat, no personal advice, no conversations about relationships, health, self-harm or adult topics; those are redirected to a trusted adult. It never asks for or stores a child's name, location, school or contact details.
Sources and uncertainty
Explanations are generated from the reviewed worked example for that question. Child-friendly source notes are shown with Ask the Globe answers. If the model is unsure it says so instead of guessing.
Escalation
Unsafe or off-topic prompts receive a fixed, calm response pointing to a trusted adult. Nothing is escalated to third parties; there is no messaging between children.
Retention
Questions are processed to produce an answer and are not linked to a child profile. Learner progress stays on this device (local-first). Your encrypted backup is yours alone.
Guardian switch
Lessons, practice, diagnostics, games and reteach still work fully — only AI-generated text is hidden.
