Companion summary

Have you ever noticed how two people can look at the same sunset and describe it completely differently? In your school, neighbourhood, and family, people hold different beliefs — and that variety is what makes communities rich. In some countries, neighbours celebrate completely different festivals on the same street, and they often share food across the fence. When you finish, try asking someone at home about one tradition that matters to them — you might be surprised what you discover.

Think About This…

Imagine you are at lunch. Your friend opens their lunchbox and takes out a meal you have never seen before. It smells different. It looks different. What do you do — do you wrinkle your nose, or do you ask curiously what it is? All around the world, billions of people eat different foods, follow different religions, speak different languages, and celebrate different festivals. Some people pray five times a day. Others light candles on Friday evening. Some families bow to show greeting; others shake hands. None of these ways is wrong — they are simply different. Today's big question is: how should we treat people whose lives look different from ours?

💭 Think about this

Think of one thing that is different about you compared to a friend or classmate. How does it feel when someone notices that difference — does it feel good or uncomfortable? Why?
