An is a small group of musicians who perform together. In an ensemble, each person plays their own part, but everyone must work as a team. There are three big skills that make an ensemble work: 1. KEEPING A STEADY The beat is the regular pulse of the music — like a ticking clock. Every player must feel the same beat inside them. If one person speeds up or slows down, the whole group falls apart. Practise tapping your knee in a slow, even rhythm: 1, 2, 3, 4. Keep it steady! 2. LISTENING TO EACH OTHER In an ensemble, you never just listen to yourself. You listen sideways — to the people around you. If you notice you are ahead or behind the others, you gently adjust. This is called . Think of it like walking side-by-side with friends: you match their pace without talking about it. 3. WATCHING FOR S A cue is a signal that tells you when to start, when to get louder or softer, or when to stop. A cue might be a nod of the head, a raised hand, or a count-in ('1, 2, 3, 4, go!'). Always keep one eye on your group leader or the person who is counting in.
