Companion summary

Have you ever wondered who builds the apps you use every day or keeps hospitals' data safe? Tech careers touch almost every industry — from sport and music to medicine and space exploration. There are over 700,000 unfilled tech jobs in Europe alone, and many roles did not even exist ten years ago. When you finish, try searching one tech job title that surprises you and note what skills it needs.

Who Built That?

Who Built That?

Think about the last app, game, or website you used today. A single product like that might involve dozens — sometimes hundreds — of different people working together. The person who designed how it looks is not the same person who wrote the code that makes it run. The person who tested it for bugs is not the same person who decided what problem it should solve. Every digital product you have ever touched was built by a team of people with very different jobs. So here is the big question: which of those jobs could be yours one day?

Write down two things you enjoy doing — one involving a computer and one not involving a computer. Keep your answers handy; you will come back to them at the end of the lesson.
