A City on a Lake

A City on a Lake

Imagine building a whole city in the middle of a lake — on an island, surrounded by water. No diggers, no cranes, no machines. Just people working together. Sounds impossible? The Aztecs did exactly that. Their great city, Tenochtitlan, stood on an island in Lake Texcoco in what is now Mexico. At its peak, around 200,000 people lived there — making it one of the largest cities in the world at that time.
