Places in the neighbourhood.
What is a neighbourhood?
A neighbourhood is the area close to your home. You can walk or ride there quite quickly. Your neighbourhood has lots of different places. Some places sell things. Some places help people. Some places are just for fun! Let's look around your neighbourhood together.
Shops and places to buy things
Your neighbourhood probably has shops. A shop is a place where you buy things. The supermarket sells food and drinks. The post office sells stamps and sends parcels. The bakery makes fresh bread and cakes. Can you name a shop near you?
Places that help us
Some places in your neighbourhood help people. The library lends books to read at home. The doctor's surgery helps when you feel poorly. The fire station keeps firefighters ready to help. The police station keeps everyone safe. These places are very important!
Fun places to visit
Your neighbourhood has fun places too! The park has swings and grass to play. The playground has slides and climbing frames. Some neighbourhoods have a swimming pool or sports centre. These places help you play and stay healthy.
Getting around your neighbourhood
Roads and pavements help you move around safely. Pavements are for walking. Roads are for cars and buses. You might cross at a zebra crossing. Some neighbourhoods have a train station or bus stop. Always hold a grown-up's hand near roads!
