Companion summary

Imagine you are the last person on Earth — what would you want to leave behind for future generations? Every small choice you make, from your shopping to your travel, sends a ripple through ecosystems far beyond your neighbourhood. One fact worth carrying: if everyone lived like the average UK teen, we would need nearly three Earths to sustain us all. When you finish today, try noticing one single-use item you could swap out this week — small shifts, taken seriously, genuinely add up.

A World Without Bees

A World Without Bees

Imagine waking up tomorrow and every bee on Earth has disappeared. No buzz in gardens, no honey — and, far more seriously, roughly one third of all the food humans eat would stop being pollinated and produced. Bees are a keystone species: remove them and entire food chains begin to collapse. Now here is the question: did any single person cause the global decline in bee populations? No — yet millions of small individual choices, from pesticide use to habitat destruction, combined to create that threat. This is the paradox at the heart of environmental responsibility: one person's actions seem tiny, yet together they shape the planet.
