Train Your Ears: Hearing Music Like a Musician
[sow-music-pion-13]
What Did You Just Hear?
What Did You Just Hear?
Here is a challenge: hum the first two notes of 'Happy Birthday'. Now hum the first two notes of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. Both pairs of notes jump upward — but they feel very different. Why? The gap between the notes is a different size. Musicians call that gap an interval. Before you could read music, you already learned language by listening. Ear training does the same thing for music: it teaches your brain to recognise musical patterns — intervals, rhythms, and chords — just by hearing them. Today you are going to start building that skill deliberately.
