The Earworm Test
The Earworm Test
Think about the last song you couldn't stop humming — the bit that kept replaying in your head long after the music stopped. Was it the whole song, or just one small section? Almost always, it's just a few words or notes. That tiny, sticky slice of music has a name: the hook. Before you read on, try to hum or silently recall that section from your chosen song. What made it so hard to shake? Hold that thought — by the end of this lesson you'll be able to answer that question like a professional songwriter.
