Who is doing the action — and who receives it?

Think about these two English sentences: 'She washes the car' and 'She washes herself.' In the first sentence, the car receives the action. In the second, she receives her own action — she and herself are the same person. That tiny word 'herself' changes everything. French has a whole category of verbs built around exactly this idea. Before you dive in, try this warm-up question to sharpen your thinking.
