You can type two kinds of things into a cell: • Data — words or numbers, for example 'Monday' or the number 5. • s — special instructions that tell the spreadsheet to calculate something for you. All formulas start with an equals sign (=). The most useful formula for beginners is . It adds numbers together. For example, if you type the numbers 5, 3, and 7 into cells B2, B3, and B4, you can type =SUM(B2:B4) into another cell. The colon (:) means 'from B2 all the way to B4'.
