Imagine you see two headlines about the same event. Headline A reads: 'New School Meal Plan Delights Students.' Headline B reads: 'Students Forced to Accept Controversial New Menu.' Both headlines describe the same change to school lunches — but they feel completely different. How is that possible? Every piece of media — a news article, a social-media post, an advertisement, a podcast — is created by someone, for a reason, aimed at a particular audience. That someone has made hundreds of small choices: which words to use, which facts to include, which images to show, and which details to leave out. Media literacy is the skill of noticing those choices and asking: why?
