Where Does Your Eye Go First?
Look at two photographs of the same empty park bench. In the first image the bench sits dead-centre. In the second it sits one-third from the left, with a long path curving away behind it. Both photos show the same bench — yet one feels static and one feels alive. Why? Before a photographer even lifts the camera, they make dozens of tiny decisions about what to include, what to leave out, and where to place things inside the frame. These decisions are called composition — and they are every bit as deliberate as a painter's brushstroke. Today you are going to learn the language and logic behind those decisions.
💭 Think about this
Think of a photograph you have taken or seen recently. Where was the main subject placed — in the centre, to one side, high up, or low down? Did that placement feel natural or a little awkward? Jot down your instinct before reading on.
