Mission 1 of 3 · AI Builder

Teach the Machine

A machine cannot think like you. It only learns from the examples you give it. Teach it some critters, then test it!

How a machine learns

What you’ll learn

  • Training data — machines learn from the examples we give them
  • Classifying — sorting new things into groups from what it has seen
  • More & better data usually makes predictions more accurate
  • Bias — unfair examples lead to unfair mistakes

🎮 What you’ll do

  • Tap critters to teach the machine — each one is an example
  • Watch the map: coloured regions show what the machine now believes
  • Press Test the machine to grade it on critters it has never seen

Dots are your examples · dashed ★ is the machine's idea of each kind · coloured areas show what it would guess anywhere on the map.

Examples you can teach

Teach at least one of each kind, then test the machine.

Tap a critter to teach it to the machine (tap again to remove it). Every critter you teach is a piece of training data.

Real AI works a bit like this — it learns from huge amounts of examples. That is why it can be wrong, and why the examples it learns from need to be fair. Always check what a machine tells you.
