What are numerals?

Numerals are the special shapes we use for numbers. The numeral 5 looks like this: 5. The numeral 12 looks like this: 12. We see numerals everywhere! They are on doors, clocks, and books.

Numerals from 0 to 10

Let's look at the first numerals. Here they are: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Each one has its own special shape. The numeral 0 is round like a ball. The numeral 1 is a straight line.

Numerals from 11 to 20

Now let's meet the bigger numerals! Here they are: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. These numerals have two parts side by side. The numeral 11 has two ones next to each other.

Spotting numerals around us

Numerals help us every day! We use them to count our toys. We see them on house numbers and car plates. When you spot a numeral, say its name out loud!

    3. Then it goes down at an angle.

    1. This numeral has two parts.

    4. Together they make thirteen!

    1. Look at the two shapes.
    2. The first shape is a 2.
    3. The second shape is a 0.
    4. This numeral is twenty!
