What is the alphabet?
The alphabet has 26 letters from A to Z. Each letter has a special sound. We use these sounds to make words. Learning the sounds helps us read and write!
Letter names and letter sounds
Every letter has a name and a sound. The letter A is called 'ay' but it says 'a' like in 'apple'. The letter B is called 'bee' but it says 'b' like in 'bat'. Sounds help us read words.
How to say the alphabet sounds
Start at the beginning with A. Say each sound clearly. Listen carefully to how your mouth moves. Practice saying the sounds every day. Soon you will know them all!
